| These Boots Are Made for Walking ... And Dancing | | November 03, 2004 | | | By: Carla Zuber | | Current Column | | Search The Column Archive | | Costume parties are always crowd favorites for San Francisco party goers and the Boots Ball was no exception. In his run for the Little Jim Club's Mardi Gras king, Jefferson Lilly threw the Boots Ball last week at the Golden Gate Yacht Club where guests were encouraged to come in costume or black-tie (or as you are for those who wear costumes and black tie on a daily basis).
The waterfront winetasting costume featured a beautiful belly dancer (Rene Rodman), and Egyptian queen (V'Anne Singleton), Elvis (Matt Smith), a glamour gal (Ann McSheehy), a cowboy (Craig Hudson) and a cowboy-ette (Gail Rogers). Laurance "Lounge Lizard" Narbut turned back the clock in '70s polyester and his date, Robin Joy looked feline fabulous. The "I-just-came-from-work" costume was popular with many, including David Donn, and Chet Carey. Andrew Mann also opted for the disco look which came in handy as guests danced to the DJ until midnight. Jefferson's costume was vintage cowboy chic as he donned a Stetson cowboy hat, bandana, sheriff's badge, vintage 1920's chaps (or "shotguns" as we used to call them out on the range) with conchos, 1940's "drop shank" spurs and new custom-made boots. He later showed off his boots (complete with a California flag) at a Lead 21 election night event at Bayside sports bar where a bevy of young Republicans gathered to watch election coverage.
The Junior League of San Francisco is celebrating the overwhelming success of the Tour d'Elegance which raised more than $200,000. Approximately 1,500 attendees enjoyed the 10th annual home tour which six private residences.
More than 300 guests helped kick off the event at an exclusive preview night gala inspired by the Great Gatsby period of refinement in homes, cars, attire and spirit. Guests had fun checking out the fancy digs that
included a lap pool, gym, and massive cook's kitchen. Congratulations to event chairs Mai Sharif Shiver and Beth Sullivan. |
